Viton® Sponge resists the corrosive attack of a wide variety of chemicals and fluids. It delivers superior protection against oils, fuels, lubricants, most mineral acids, and fire-resistant hydraulic fluids. It performs well in many aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons (carbon tetrachloride, benzene, toluene, xylene) that act as degrading solvents for other rubbers.
Viton® Sponge plays a particularly vital role in cases where soft flouroelastomers are desirable. The practical low hardness limit for solid Viton® is 55 durometer. Viton® Sponge fills this void where softer material is required, yet the heat and fluid resistance of solid Viton® is necessary.
Additional advantages of Viton® Sponge over conventional elastomeric sponges include: low temperature flexibility, high resistance to ozone attack, and low moisture absorption.
The operational temperature range of Viton® Sponge is -10°F to +400°F. At high temperatures, Viton® Sponge resists heat and simultaneously retains its good mechanical properties.
