The performance of a rubber extrusion is largely determined by its base polymer. Here are the most common options:
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer): Most Versatile. Excellent ozone, UV, and weather resistance. Temperature range: -40°C to +120°C. The #1 choice for automotive and building seals.
NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber): Oil-Resistant. Excellent resistance to oils, fuels, and solvents. Used for fuel hose seals, industrial equipment, and oil-contact applications.
CR (Chloroprene / Neoprene): Balanced. Good weather and ozone resistance, flame retardant, and good physical strength. Used for outdoor waterproofing, elevator door seals, and rail vehicle gaskets.
Silicone Rubber (VMQ): Extreme Temperature. Outstanding high/low temperature resistance (-60°C to +250°C), non-toxic, odorless. Used in food machinery, medical devices, and oven door seals.
SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber): Economy. Good abrasion resistance, low cost. Suitable for general pads and bumpers, but poor weather resistance (indoor use only).
